Speaker 1 (0s): Hey, Belles and Bow Ties. So I wanna talk about music for a second. So I listen to music a lot. I listen to it a lot. And I'm telling you right now, music is hitting me differently. It's hitting me differently. It's not even about nostalgia. It's not even about like being sad. It's like I am hearing the music.

It's like I don't, let me tell you, I have, I have a sticky note of notes and songs. I have notes on here. You may see me go back and forth between tabs, my notes, I, I've got stuff written down all over the place. I'm a little bit of a disaster, but before I get into it, look just like my hair, I got it cut today. 'cause you know, the color took all my hair out, you know, I was looking crazy. So, you know, it's got a little bit of balance.

Anyway, so back to the music. Sorry, the a DD kicked in. So I got like nice big loose curls in the back. I'm kind of liking this little short little situation I got going and it feels really good. It's nice and soft. So it's this, what's this? Anyway, so back to the songs. So basically what I'm saying is this, it's not like the music has changed at all. It's not, it's more like everything is clearer now.

It is clearer. Like one of the songs that I can hear anytime is, okay, so look, you remember back in the eighties, Christopher Ca, Christopher Cross had that song Sailing Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me. And if the wind is right, you can sail away and find tranquility. Oh, the canvas can do miracles.

Just you wait and see. Believe in me. It's not far to never, okay, so look, you know, look, don't judge your singing. Just catch what I'm picking up or pick up what I'm putting down. Isn't that what it is? It's like I am hearing these, these songs, the songs haven't changed. The, the, the, the notes haven't changed. Now there are people who have covered sailing.

There are people who covered some of the songs I'm gonna mention, but, and they've had some changings to it. But generally speaking the song is the same. But I hear it clearly now and it's resonating with me. You wanna know what other song that I, I hear differently. That song Home by Stephanie Mills. When I think of home, I think of a place where there's love over flowing.

I wish I was home. I wish I was back there to the things I've been knowing. Now, look, the point I'm making, don't judge a singing between songs like Sailing and Home. It's like, I've heard these songs a million times and over the course of the last few years, and especially today, it's like I'm hearing these songs, the, the words haven't changed, but I hear them and, and a lot of it's just because it's now I have more experience, right?

So now these songs, I think they're hitting differently is because I am different, I am more experienced. So now these, these words, they resonate so much more. Like when you're younger, you know, logically what they're saying and you get to your twenties and thirties. But you know, now it's like when I hear the worst, I'm like, oh my how brilliant these artists were to create these songs that had such depth and such meaning.

I don't know, I'm curious to see what some, I'm trying to think how you got, there's people popping on an off. I'm over here stuttering and carrying on what is happening right now. So anyway, I just think like when you, when you hear these songs, to me they are iconic, right? I think what happens is it's like I allow myself to rest in hearing the song and let the song breathe. One of the other songs that I liked was holding back the years You've got, hold on, I think my husband is coming up here, so I'm gonna take myself off of camera.

But other songs that resonated with me were songs like Holding Back the Years. That's a really, really good one. And then of course you've got, I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Rai. So those songs, they do hit differently. And a lot of the times, the reason why those songs hit differently is because you have lived more, right? So now you have more experience. And so those songs, they will resonate differently. Same songs, same notes, but it's like you have a lot more emotional maturity when you hear them.

The other ones, I'm gonna, I think I have two more I wanted to mention. One of them was really, let me see, I mentioned I make, oh, I like what a fool believes by the Do Doobie Brothers. I mean that's actually, I don't wanna say it's a funny song 'cause it's kind of like the guy is delusional, but I think what probably lends itself to the most recent times, I would say would be Healing by Richard Smallwood.

For those of you who didn't know, Richard Smallwood passed away a few days ago and, and he's iconic in the gospel community. He was one of the few who actually really engaged in real praise and worship music, right? So Richard Smallwood passing was a big, big deal. You go ahead, you go ahead. So I just thought it was interesting because that song Healing you listen to the very beginning, it says Don't be discouraged.

Joy comes in the morning, know that God is not, and then he says, stand still and look up. God is going to show up. But when you listen, when you listen to these words and you hear the music behind it, it hits differently. I remember when my mother passed away a few years ago, a couple years ago, and sorry, my husband is, you know, heating food up and everything like that.

And I'm in the kitchen. So I'm trying to make sure I respect everybody's privacy. I just remember after she passed and I was there when she was there, and I remember that song, don't Be discouraged. Joy comes in the morning. Know that God is not stand still and look up. God is going to show up. He's standing by. There's healing for your sorrows. There's healing for your pain, healing for your sickness.

There's Shelter from the Rain. Lord said that he like, but when you listen to the song, it was just so powerful. Anyway, where am I going with all this? I'm, I'm coming on and off of a camera here. I think the biggest thing is just understanding that the songs did not change. I did, let me come back on camera for a second. The songs did not change. I changed.

I became smarter. I became more experienced. And so you have have like a collection of experiences and memories and emotions now that you can attach to these songs. And I think that's the reason why they hit differently. I'm gonna come back off now 'cause my husband's walking back and forth. So anyway, I'm gonna close with this. These songs are, are, are very reflective.

I think I'm more reflective, but I think I'm more mature now when I hear these songs. I think the songs just sound differently when you have lived more life. So I think those familiar things that, those familiar songs that we're so used to just start moving you differently, they haven't lost their power. If anything, you have gained more context when you hear these songs and a lot of it has to do with the fact that you have lived more life.

But, okay, that's pretty much it. I just wanted to come on here and drop that real quickly. Hopefully you've enjoyed it. And until next time, go ahead and subscribe to everything and I'm practically perfect in every way and can practically do no wrong. All right, until next time.
